The detailed answers for everything past the install prompt: how to connect Notion, switch between Excalidraw and draw.io, manage your plan, and what happens to your drawings if you ever uninstall. For the short product FAQ (what Flowblock does, how it compares to other tools), see the homepage FAQ.
Getting started
How do I connect Flowblock to my Notion pages?
Click the Flowblock icon, sign in with Notion, and pick which pages to grant access to. Pick top-level pages or whole sections - Notion extends that permission to every sub-page automatically, so new pages underneath just work without re-authorizing.
What if a page isn't authorized yet?
Clicking the Flowblock button on an unconnected page opens a dialog with a shortcut to the popup. Two things to verify there:
- The page's workspace is connected. If not, click Connect another workspace.
- The page is shared with Flowblock. In Notion: page ··· menu → Connections → Flowblock.
Granting access at a parent page extends to every sub-page underneath.
Editors and tools
How do I switch between Excalidraw and draw.io?
Two ways:
- Right-click the floating button to pick Excalidraw or draw.io for the next drawing only. Your default isn't changed.
- Open the Flowblock popup (toolbar icon) → Settings → Default editor to set the editor every new drawing uses.
Existing drawings always reopen in the editor they were created with - clicking Edit on a draw.io image goes back to draw.io, same for Excalidraw.
Which editor does the Import button use?
The Import button on a Mermaid block opens the diagram in your default editor - whichever one you've set in the Flowblock popup (toolbar icon) → Settings → Default editor.
To send a specific Mermaid block to the other editor, switch the default first, then click Import. More on which Mermaid types work best in each editor →
Drawing and features
Can I just draw something new from scratch?
Yes. Flowblock adds a floating button to every Notion page - click it to open a blank canvas in Excalidraw or draw.io. The Mermaid import is one entry point, not the only one. Saves the same way: a native Notion image block on your page.
If sketching and whiteboarding inside Notion is your main use case, see: Draw and whiteboard inside Notion →
Can I use it as a whiteboard for brainstorming?
Yes - Excalidraw is built for that. Sketch ideas freehand, drop in shapes and arrows, write rough notes. Save when you're done and the whiteboard becomes a Notion image block on the page. Reopen any time to keep working.
How does version history work?
Pro plans keep the last 5 versions of each drawing - embedded directly in the Notion image block, not in a separate database. Open the diagram, click Version history in the bottom-left, and restore any earlier snapshot with one click.
Does it support dark mode?
Yes. Drawings always save in light mode (so they look right for everyone), but the editor itself can match Notion's dark theme - toggle in the popup.
Plans and billing
Which Notion plan tiers are supported?
Flowblock works on Free, Plus, Business, and Enterprise - it uses the standard Notion file-upload API.
What if I cancel Pro?
Existing drawings are untouched. New drawings drop back to the Free limit (5 per month). Re-subscribe any time.
Compatibility and data
Does it work on Firefox or Edge?
Chrome is live now. Firefox and Edge are in progress.
What happens to my drawings if I uninstall?
Nothing - they stay. Drawings live as Notion image blocks inside your workspace. Without Flowblock they're just regular images. We never store your content on our servers.
